“The Secret’s” Own Cloverfield

November 28, 2007 by marvin

What is Cloverfield?

Cloverfield is a new giant monster movie coming out by JJ Abrams. It’s a movie with many secrets. Enormous efforts were made to keep the monsters look, a secret. When the first teaser trailer came out Abrams didn’t even name the movie. The audience was left guessing. He kept it a secret!

Still More Secrets

This article isn’t about Cloverfield the movie. It’s about another movie, a DVD movie called “The Secret”. This movie also has a huge gigantic monster of a secret. It’s own Cloverfield, if you will. Rest assured casual readers and true subscribers I’m going to give you a glimpse at “The Secret’s” own Cloverfield.

But, Wait! A Word of Warning

Sometimes mysteries are best left unsolved because the imaginary explanation behind the ‘mystery’ is often more powerful than the real ‘explanation’. It’s often more fun to believe there really is a Loch Ness monster underneath murky waters. So if you don’t want to be told that Santa Claus does not exist stop reading. Or if you’re the kind of person that loves to know how magic tricks are done then read on.

What’s “The Secret” about?

Want more spice in your life? Money? Love? Success? By following “The Secret” you can easily get everything you dream of. Literally speaking by using “The Law of Attraction”.

What is The Law of Attraction?

In a nutshell, “The Law of Attraction” insists that your feelings and thoughts are powerful and can attract real events into your life. Anything from the workings of the cosmos to interactions among individuals in their physical, emotional and professional affairs are controlled by our thoughts.

Basically all you have to do is believe and I mean believe intensely on what you want to attract into your life and the universe will bow down to your will. You can even cure life threatening ailments by just believing.

What happens if you don’t get what you believed in?

Well, according to the secret, you didn’t believe enough. It’s entirely your fault. “The Law of Attaction” is off the hook.

Finally Cloverfield Revealed

If you haven’t guessed by now. Ok, here it is. The Gigantic Monster Cloverfield secret is… it’s all bunk, BS, a smelly lie. That’s right it’s all a sham. Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Larry King, they’re all suckers.

Ok I take back what I said about Larry King

Despite the DVD selling at a tremendous pace and gaining worldwide attention and reaching the New York Times Best-Seller List there has been an avalanche of criticism towards the “The Secret” for good reason.

According to Wikipedia, Larry King rightly pointed out that if the Universe manifests abundance at a mere thought why is there so much poverty, starvation and death?

There is no scientific basis for “The Secret” claims. All evidence is anecdotal and subjective and highly susceptible to misinterpretations.

We also live in a country that allows for people to overcome adversity, which would allow a impoverished homeless man to attain the American dream. This would not be the case for much of the world.

It has been criticized by Time, The Guardian, Slate, Newsweek, the Chicago reader the Los Angeles Times, the Dayton Daily News.

You know it’s bad when its own stars criticize the movie

Even ‘The Secret’s own interviewees on the DVD claim they were taken out of context and they didn’t agree with the “The Secret” main premise. Here is an excerpt from one of the interviewees themselves from the Community of Excellence.

You Can’t Escape

Mark states how I truly feel about the whole thing. I believe in laser focusing on your goal through whatever means, be it visualizations, goal setting and most importantly actions.

Of course some things take patience, making a non-action or not making a move until the most opportune moment, but for the most part it takes action to achieve your goal.

When focusing on how to get to your goal ideas eventually come to mind. But, it’s up to you to take the heartfelt actions to achieve them. There’s no way around this fact. It’s in the 90% perspiration not the 10% of inspiration. You must roll up your sleeves, put on your magic armor, brave the dark realms on your path and slay the dragons to reach the golden treasure. No one will do it for you.

Epilogue

Who knows how Cloverfield the movie will do when it’s released to the public. Hopefully it won’t be ignored like an old dust collector sitting on a shelf for years. Just like I hope “The Secret” Cloverfield won’t be ignored either. Remember folks it’s ok to visualize, meditate, do your mantras and its even good, but ultimately accomplishing your dreams is in your actions.

My readership sunk back to 30 on Monday. I’m not so sure I’ll hit my goal and even if I did it would probably sink back down again. But, that’s ok. Considering my blog is only about a month old its not too bad. Anyways, I wanted to post some success. I really want my readers to read more than one post upon visiting and it looks like that is what is happening.

As laughable as my readership numbers are I do hope they rise!

Top 10 Things I Learned from ‘The Last Starfighter’

November 19, 2007 by Rick

Hi everyone, I’m Rick, Marvin’s little brother. He asked me to come up with a top ten this week and after some thought I wanted to go with a long time favorite of mine, The Last Starfighter. I hope you enjoy it. Funny doesn’t come easily. Being a timeless tale of intergalactic heroism, I pondered what lessons there are to learn from the movie, with no further ado, our weekly top 10.

1. Don’t worry about everyone asking you to take care of everything they are too lazy to do themselves. You’ll eventually leave all those jerks behind to save the universe.
2. Dealing with your girlfriend, hard. Being the last star fighter against the Kodan armada, less hard.
3. There are no speed limits on flying cars.
4. Video games can save the galaxy and is a great training tool.
5. The little things matter, even a high score.
6. Never sell yourself short, if you think that your just a kid from a trailer park, then that is all your ever be.
7. Finding the hero can be a profitable business.
8. Find something to fight for, for example, your family and your girlfriend. Who is back home getting it on with your Beta Unit.
9. If you are the one ship against the armada, you can hide out in asteroid that isn’t considered a strategic blind spot.
10. The Enemy’s over confidence always leads them to keep their vulnerable weak spot exposed to attack.

Ok, For whatever reason this clip really inspires me. It is also one of the winning videos from last Years YouTube.com Videos of the year. The clip is of a Kiwi, a bird who cannot fly, who comes up with a way through massive effort to create the illusion of flight. And I think it has a really powerful message.
